Uzazi Village is all about helping low income, low resource women experience healthier pregnancies and have healthier babies
We meet this objective in three ways. We provide:
Uzazi Village is a community collaborative nonprofit organization working to decrease maternal and infant health disparities in the urban core of metropolitan Kansas City. We are a group of educators and clinicians determined to make a change in how care is delivered to low income urban, particularly African-American (but not exclusively) women and their babies.
The healthcare crisis for these women and their infants persist in the face of technological advances. African-American babies are twice as likely to die before their first birthday, and African-American mothers are more likely to die from childbirth complications than her Caucasian conterparts. Uzazi Village offers creative solutions to the outcome divide through the promotion of the Midwifery Model of Care, Baby-Friendly Care, and Mother-Friendly Care.
With these and other innovative approaches to care, we can decrease prematurity, increase prenatal care utilization, and breastfeeding. We are here to stand in the gapand say enough is enough. Our community deserves better.
Uzazi Village is a nonprofit organization devoted to decreasing pregnancy related health disparities in the urban core of Kansas City. Along the way, we hope to increase the quality of life for moms, babies, and families residing in the urban core and increase awareness and promotion of healthly lifestyles and and community building.
